GIA Integration
For stores on the premium plan, Clarity integrates with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to auto-populate diamond specifications from certification numbers. This cuts down on manual data entry and ensures your diamond records match what’s on the certificate.
Note: GIA integration is available on premium plans only.
Looking Up Certificates
When adding or editing a diamond in your inventory, find the GIA Certificate Number field in the diamond details section. Enter the certificate number (the number printed on the GIA report) and Clarity looks it up automatically. If the certificate is found, the stone’s specifications are filled in within a few seconds. You don’t need to leave the page or open a separate tool.
Clarity pulls the key grading details from the GIA report:
- Carat Weight — the exact weight from the certificate
- Cut Grade — Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, or Poor
- Color Grade — D through Z scale
- Clarity Grade — FL through I3
- Measurements — length, width, and depth in millimeters
- Fluorescence — None, Faint, Medium, Strong, or Very Strong
All of these fields populate automatically, so you don’t have to type them in or cross-reference a paper report. If any field needs adjustment, you can still edit it manually after the lookup.
Troubleshooting
If Clarity can’t find the certificate, double-check that you entered the number correctly. GIA report numbers are typically 10 digits. Common issues include transposing digits or including extra spaces. If the number is correct and still not found, the report may not be in GIA’s online database yet (very new reports) or it could be an older report that predates digital records. In those cases, just enter the diamond specifications manually. All the same fields are available for manual input.
Supported Diamonds
The integration works with any diamond that has a GIA report number, including:
- Natural diamonds with GIA grading reports (the most common use case)
- Lab-grown diamonds with GIA Laboratory-Grown Diamond Reports
Other certifications (AGS, IGI, EGL) are not currently supported for auto-population. For those stones, enter the specifications manually and note the certifying body in the description or notes field.
Enabling the Integration
GIA integration is included with Clarity’s premium plan. If you’re on a standard plan, contact your Clarity account manager or reach out to the support team to upgrade. Once your plan is upgraded, the GIA lookup is enabled automatically. No additional setup or API keys are needed on your end.
You can still enter all diamond specifications manually. Every field that GIA auto-populates is also available as a standard input on the diamond detail form. The integration is a convenience feature that speeds up data entry and reduces the chance of typos, but it’s not required to manage certified diamonds in Clarity.
